Surveying approaches for UXO in the marine environment

This event will examine the different UXO surveys approaches in the marine developments in the UK and other European countries.

Ticket information
This event costs £150 to attend.

When?
18 September 2014, 10.30am - 15.45pm (registration from 10am).

Overview
A large number of activities occur in the marine environment, including construction and operation of offshore wind farms, wave and tidal arrays, port and harbour expansions, aggregate dredging, coastal defences, cables or pipelines.

In constructing or operating these developments, disturbance can be made to the sea bed. In areas where Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) is present, there is a risk of loss of life or injury to personnel and costly delay to construction or operational activities.

CIRIA project RP998 Guidance on management of unexploded ordnance in off-shore situations will provide good practice on assessment and management for UXO risk for marine developments.

This first UK guidance is targeted at clients and developers, focusing on areas outside technical detail.

This event will look beyond the scope of this CIRIA RP998 by examining the different UXO surveys approaches. It will also explore:
  • Limitations of UXO survey approaches in the UK and other European countries
  • Time and cost
  • Practical issues when applied on site
  • Confidence in the quality of the data
  • Data interpretation and storage/record
  • Permit requirements in the UK
Who should attend?
  • Offshore clients/developers
  • Consultants
  • Contractors
  • Local Authorities
  • Surveying specialists
  • UXO specialists
